TMC’s support of State Controller John Chiang’s Auditing Team started the morning off with protest signs facing incoming city workers. Protest involves the alleged fraud and misuse of Obama’s Federal Build America Bonds by the City of Riverside.  Whereby, bonds intended for one purpose or project, is diverted to other unrelated purposes. In the midst of taxpayer abuse as seen with California Cities such as Bell, Montebello and Hercules which have resulted in millions of dollars lost.  Local community residents have raised the questions of the sanctity of the city’s finances as well as their expenditures.  Concerns of increase power, water, sewer rates along with incidental service fees to get around proposition 218  to cover cost of mismanagement have been prevalent. Now with the City of Stockton, California on the brink of filing for bankruptcy, attention is high.  TMC request the auditing team to dig further.  “Seek and you will find”..  Join us in voicing your opinion in front of City Hall and at todays City Council Meetings, Afternoon session 3:00 pm and Evening session 6:30 pm.  According to the PE the auditing team will be in the City of Riverside for a two month routine evaluation, of one project, the Columbia Grade Seperation. TMC questions the length of time necessary for one project to be evaluated.

UPDATE: 03/07/2012:

At Tuesday’s City Council Meeting Chief of Police Sergio Diaz with Assistant Police Chief Chris Vicino presented the Police Departments Strategic Plan for 2010-2015 just prior to the display of unchiefly behavior everyone is talking about.  But wait a minute or two,  2010?  Wasn’t that two years ago.  Isn’t this just a little late in turning in this chiefly assignment? How do you retroact two years..?  So, shouldn’t it read 2012-2015?  Regardless here it is.

I love how there are three people protesting and all of the signs were made by the same person.

  2. Christy says:

So irrelevant you are, you and your little group of 2, maybe 3. It’s pathetic that you think it’s funny that you spell so horribly. But, if a teacher thinks it’s so irrelevant (and muses about it) that they cannot spell what does that say about the character of that teacher? Oh, well, it’s the message that counts, right? Really? whn kds r abrviting evrythg shdn’t we nstil n thm the BASICS!!!!!! For so many reasons you are a disgrace! Ain’t got none. All 3 words are wrong and if left uncorrected teaches the student that they done good……until they apply for a JOB! Oh, in case you didn’t know – it’s “I don’t have any”.

Thanks for your comment Christy, I’m not sure I quite follow, was there a particular instance where Dvonne’s mispellings were of concern? Can you be more specific?

  3. Christy says:

Wow – didn’t know you “moderated” comments “Your comment is awaiting moderation.”. Interesting. So you “print what’s fit”? ………According to………. you. Got it. I was so naive. I thought a grass-roots effort as yours would welcome any “debate”.

In regards to Christy’s comments. What exactly does she think is a disgrace? Are you referring to TMC spelling problems or are you upset that anyone would question the city’s finances? The spelling issues are harmless, but the city financial problems have serious consequences for every tax paying citizen in Riverside. I support TMC’s asking for city records and demanding some answers for questionable expenditures and manipulations. The city has some extremely well paid staff that should be able to answer the questions if everything is on the up and up. So far, the answer has been “just trust us,” and that is insufficient.

Christy, you seem to be upset over a few people carrying signs out side city hall, or some blogger mis-spelling a few words on-line, but how are you going to feel if the city has to lay off people, cut back services, and raise utility rates due to massive waste and fraud? What will Hudson and Loveridge’s legacy really be? Sure, we’ve got some pretty new buildings and parks. But what if we are living beyond our means and have to declare bankruptcy? On of the council comments from when they hired Brad, that I’ll never forget, was that they wanted him because he knew how to “leverage” resources make things happen. I’ve worked in real estate, and I believe the concept of “leveraging” is a form of gambling. You over extend your debt with the expectation you can flip the investment before the payments drain your liquid assets, or the value rises to where the increased equity allows you to refinance to a lower rate. We are post bubble now and the city has a big problem. I think they are over-leveraged. They didn’t flip all their investments before the crash. They bought high and are going to have to sell low. There were too many pigs feeding at the RDA trough. Too much waste and fraud. The property taxes will not cover the debt load and that RDA is dead, we can’t borrow our way out to cover up the problem (thank God, as it would only make it worse).

I guess TMC contends the city applied for and received Obama Bonds for the sewer, and then diverted money to other uses to cover up cash flow problems. In other words, to prop up a Ponsi like scheme where new money is used to replace the older money. At some point the new money dries up and the house of cards collapses.

Christy, aren’t these issues you should be concern about? If these are true problems, then putting your fingers in your ears and saying “I don’t hear you” won’t make the problems go away.

We need to get at the honest truth before we can devise a plan to dig ourselves out of the problem. It would be nice if the council would start asking some honest questions of their staff. Instead, they seem to be circling the wagons because they are either running for a higher office or have a legacy they want to protect. The problem for them is, if the issues are as bad as TMC thinks, there will be a time when the bad finances can’t be covered up and then there will be no place to hide.

Hudson is gone and has his obscene pension; he won’t be around if the melt down happens. What is Mr. Sundeen’s exit strategy? Will they still want to name city hall after Loveridge then?

  5. kaptalizm says:

What unchiefly behavior are you referring to regarding Chief Diaz?

  6. FBM2005 says:

I heard he added some folks to his “naughty” list. Nice to know there’s company coming to join the rest of us!

  7. Inland Empress says:

At least a “Concerned Citizen,” knows what is going on!!!!!!!

  8. […] Three years ago TMC did the original story on Sewergate.  We knew the City loaned out millions of s… The State of California agreed with us and recognized those loans as Unenforceable Obligations. […]
